Foreplay (The Ivy Chronicles #1)
by Sophie Jordan
Summary from Goodreads:
Before she goes after the life she’s always wanted, she’s about to find the one she needs.
Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.
Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…
I was a little reluctant to pick up this book at first because the stories of inexperienced girls vs. experienced guys sometimes annoy me. Well, I was wrong to even hesitate, I devoured this book in no time and was left with a desperate need for more.
This is the first book that I read by Sophie Jordan and I have absolutely fallen in love with her writing. She makes it so easy to just lose yourself in the story. The characters were amazing too. I was prepared to hate Pepper as I often do with similar characters but that didn’t happen. She was charismatic and I could actually relate to her -which totally surprised me.
Coming from a troubled past, it is understandable why she seeks safety and stability. Pepper has her future planned out and this gives her comfort. She has been in love with her best friend’s brother Hunter for the longest time, but not just because of him. She has always wanted to be a part of their family. In her eyes they are perfect; everything she didn’t have growing up. She wants Hunter to notice her but she needs some practice, and that’s when Reece comes in. In my opinion, Reece was flawless. It may actually be impossible not to fall for him. One of my favorite things about him is that he is not the typical guy you’d expect in this role. He is not the sweet, overly patient and understanding kind, but it is still clear that he loves her and he is willing to make sacrifices for her. Reece has qualities that make him more real, more believable than other characters in similar settings. They are perfect together and there are many scenes that will take your breath away.
This was such a great read, I can’t wait to get my hands on more Sophie Jordan books.
