New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance/Sports Romance

Life’s been rough lately for Noelle Payne, but she’s not one to let negativity rule. So, she lost her job? She’ll find another one. The bank foreclosed on the house? Well, she can live out of her car for a while. There’s always an upside to be found…but now Noelle needs to find something to give her life meaning. She owes it to the universe to figure it out, too, because a stranger just saved her life.

When Liam Kallen’s wife died, his goal-scoring ability died with her. After a trade from the only pro hockey team he’s ever played for, he’s now playing for the NHL’s Portland Storm. Everyone said he needed a change of scenery, but nothing changes until he rescues Noelle. All of a sudden, the world once again looks bright and he’s lighting the lamp like he used to.

Noelle’s cheerful disposition is just the bit of sunlight Liam needs in his life. He wants to give her everything she needs because she’s everything he wants. The problem? She doesn’t believe she needs anything…at least nothing material. The one thing they both know she truly needs—a real purpose—also happens to be the one thing he doesn’t know how to give her. If he can’t help her find that, she might walk away and take all her sunshine with her.

TSR My Review

breakawayI am obviously a huge figure skating fan, but after reading this book, I think I might become a hockey fan too! What a great story this was. Eric was beyond perfect. I absolutely loved everything about him. He was such a good guy all around and when it came to Dana he was patient, selfless, sweet and protective; everything you’d want in a man.

“I didn’t see much point in trying to deny it to myself anymore. I loved her. Absolutely. Completely. Head over my fucking heels in love with her. She may not love me in return, but that was okay. I couldn’t control that. All I could do was be what she needed me to be, do what she needed me to do. Always. As long as she’d let me.”

“When she’d laughed, I’d nearly lost my mind and pulled her into my arms, mud and all, and kissed her as long and deep and hard as I had been dreaming of. I’d barely stopped myself in time.”

Please excuse me while I quietly swoon over here.

Dana was also pretty amazing because even though she had her panic attacks she was still so brave and willing to fight. I really liked that about her. The two of them were so cute together and their story does not disappoint.

ontheflyOn this second book of the Portland Storm series we are introduced to Rachel Shaw, a single mom who gets hired to be Jim Sutter’s assistant. Rachel catches Brenden’s eye from the moment they meet but she has severe trust issues. In a way, her reservations reminded me a bit of Dana’s attitude with her own struggle. I feel like for that reason, Brenden could understand where she was coming from.

Brenden is not the sensitive type though. He is more of the “rough around the edges” type and definitely not the kind of guy you’d see going for a single mom. I think this is part of what makes the story so great.

Another thing that makes this book great is the team. After reading the first book and now this one, I have really taken a liking to hockey. I’m also very attached to all the secondary characters. Babs is just awesome and Jim Sutter is so kind and caring. Basically, where do I apply to work for the Portland Storm? I’m seriously attached to the whole team.

CatherineGayle_LightTheLamp_800px (1)After reading the first two books in the series, I was kind of hoping the third book would be about Babs and Katie. The bad news is, it wasn’t. The good news is, it was just as wonderful as the first two.

Light the Lamp is the story of Liam Kallen who is one of the players who gets traded from the Islanders at the end of On the Fly. Liam has a heart of gold and always wants to take care of people. This is what he does when he meets Noelle. However, it’s not what she wants. I have to admit that for a while, I didn’t quite understand Noelle. I think I probably felt just like Liam did!

Noelle is homeless and even though she needs the help to get back on her feet, she hates the idea of Liam taking care of her when she can’t offer him anything in return. She is a free spirit, someone who likes to dance in the rain and walk barefooted and who is not attached to material things. Noelle is used to making sacrifices and all she really cares about is serving a greater purpose. (In my opinion though, she was a little bit too stubborn.) Liam goes to great lengths for her and I’m glad he does because ultimately they were perfect for each other.

P.S. I love when he speaks Swedish!
