by J.L. Berg

Summary from Goodreads:

After two years in a coma, August Kinkaid has forgotten the darkness in his past. But his past hasn’t forgotten him. His beautiful former fiancée, Everly, remembers every tumultuous moment of their stormy relationship. The sizzling passion. The web of lies. And the terrible secret Everly’s been hiding since her last fateful night with August.

Now the truth is out and August remembers everything. As his long-buried memories come flooding back, he begins to understand why Everly would want to move on with her life. Why she would give her heart to another man. And why August should try to forget her once and for all.

But he can’t give up on the only woman he’s ever loved. Even if he has to reopen old wounds–and face the darkest demons of his past–August will do whatever it takes for a second chance with Everly. He let her slip away once. He’s not about to spend the rest of his life remembering Everly when he could be holding her in his arms forever . . .

TSR My Review

As soon as I finished the first book, I was ready to devour this one, especially since I was still reeling from the cliffhanger.  Needless to say, there was much anticipation and eagerness on my part, and I think this might’ve ruined the book for me a little.

Things started out great -I had really liked Forgetting August and the beginning of Remembering Everly was the continuation of the story I had thoroughly enjoyed.  However, somewhere along the way, the book lost its grip on me.  I can’t really pinpoint where and/or how but I simply started to lose interest.  The story seemed to be dragging and there just wasn’t much excitement.  I found myself reading pages and pages where nothing worthwhile was really happening.  I feel like it just took too long for the story to unfold or at least, for anything meaningful to happen.  As a result of this, it took me a long time to finish the book.  I found myself skipping reading at night (which I hate), until I finally decided to read through the slump and finish it.

The story was still a good story, and putting aside my above mentioned issues, I was satisfied with how all the loose ends were tied up.  The characters were still the same likable characters from the first book and I was glad to see that everyone got what they deserved. Overall it was a good book and perhaps I just had high expectations.  Other readers might not have trouble with the flow, so don’t let that discourage you from picking up this book.

  1. Great review! I recently read (and reviewed) this book and I have to admit that it did eventually drag on and on without any substantial development. Nice to see someone with the same opinion!
